We spent two weeks looking for a lift and also a job. But both were not a big success. So we decided to rent a car and have a road trip for a week. Luckily for her, Joppi has a call for a trial on our first trip day. So when Joppi had finished her trial for housekeeping and when Timo and I had finished visiting Mount Wellington, we finally started our Tassie trip.

Our first stop was at the Mount Field National Park. We had some bush walk to see the beautiful Russel Falls, Horseshoe Falls and Lake Dubson. While we were driving to our first rest area we saw for the first time in the wild : wombats, possums (first time for me) and pademelons (kind of wallabies with little tiny harms and a big belly!). That was amazing! We tried taking pictures but we were not enough fast! That night, we tried to sleep (Joppi and Me in the car and Timo in a tent) but it was not that easy because of the temperature. Probably -8 000°C!

Luckily the next day was sunny and we could enjoy some more bush walks, around Lake St. Clair, the Aboriginal cultural walk and at the platypus Bay. Then at the Nelson Falls. On the way to Queenstown and Strahan we had a short walk for a waterfall. Those towns were not really interesting for us, we just bought some food, cook and fill up the tank there. In Strahan, I killed my bottle of olive oil on the floor. I was sad, really sad. It was a really good friend for cooking. RIP… On the way to another rest area, Timo saw a gorgeous view from a bridge with the sunset and just said “wow wow wow, stop”. So, I stopped and, indeed, it was lovely. And after some minutes, we saw our first platypus. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take any picture. They were too fast and too far… That night, I felt like sleeping in a tent. It was probably a bad idea, because it was raining the whole night. When I woke up the next day, water was just under my mattress!

Because of the rain, we decided to skip Cradle Mountain and do it another day. We saw the North West coast and nice beach at Wynery and Penguin. Then at Latrobe we tried to chill and observe the river in case we could see a platypus. When we just decided to not chase after them, we saw one! But again, it was too fast to have a picture… That night we thought about sleeping in a real bed, so we spent the night at Gowrie Park accommodation.

That was a real good night! We hit the road again in the morning and stopped in Moles Creek. We had a guided tour at the King Solomons Cave. It was nice and colorful. After that, we drove to Cradle Mountain National Park. And we saw our first Australian snow! A LOT OF SNOW and wind! So much that I decided to not walk with Joppi and Timo who came back feet wet after 15 minutes. The view on the mountain was really beautiful! Heading east until Mount Williams National Park, we saw another wombat and finally we have our photo!

We spent a free night (bad girls and boy, we didn’t pay the camp) at this National Park then we walked up on the top of Mount William where we enjoyed a gorgeous view on the ocean and the park. Afterwards, we drove on a road (probably for 4WD) to Bay of Fires. It’s a really nice place, where, if it was not so cold, I would have a swim. Further, at the Freycinet National Park’s lighthouse, we saw from far away, a whale (it might be a humpback). Then on the way to our next rest area we saw an echidna. It was crazy, every day we saw a new animal. Every animal we wanted to see, we have seen them! Unfortunately, not the Tasmanian Devil.

At the Tasman Peninsula we saw a nice natural bridge and a shit blowhole! Then we walked at the Coal Mine historic site . We saw there a convict prison and some old building. After that, we decided to chill a bit in Hobart before to go to Jürgen and Helen’s house. Jürgen in a man Joppi met 2 weeks before. He said that she could spend a night in their garden during our road trip. So it’s what we did. We had a really good night and also a good morning with delicious waffles Jürgen made with homemade flour! Jürgen and Helen were really lovely people.

So it’s with full stomachs that we have been to the Hartz Mountains National Park. There was snowing! We decided whatever to walk there to the Lake Esperance and the Lake Osbourne. We couldn’t go further because the snow was really high and it wasn’t possible to see the path. It was nice even if we finished a bit wet by the snow. Our last stop was in Huonville. Actually there was nothing to do. We just stopped because we wanted to have a nap on the grass under the sun since a long time! Then we went back to our ‘beautiful’ hostel.

On Monday with Joppi we walked a bit and we had a dinner in a restaurant. Tuesday morning Timo left for Sydney and me for Melbourne… I arrived at the airport, waited for checking my luggage and the nice woman said to me ‘your flight is for tomorrow! But you can pay a hundred dollars more and you can leave now…”. So I went back to Joppi, sooner than I thought! And the day after, I left for real for St Kilda. There I met the first night nice Frenchies.

St Kilda story will come later (I don’t say "soon", I’m such a lazy girl, it’s incredible!).

Pendant nos 2 semaines à Hobart, on a cherché du boulot mais surtout on a tenté de trouver des gens qui feraient un road trip et qui pourraient nous prendre en covoiturage. Etant un échec total, on a décidé de louer une voiture pour 1 semaine de road trip. Le jour avant de partir, on a trouvé quelqu’un pour nous accompagner, Timo. Ce même jour, Joppi a eu un appel pour faire un essai le lendemain… Elle a réussi à négocier de faire son essaie et, dans le cas où elle conviendrait, commencer après notre road trip !

C’est donc quand Joppi a fini son essaie que nous avons entamé la route. Notre première destination a été Mount Field National Park. On a fait de super randonnées aux Russel Falls, Horseshoe Falls (les deux sont de magnifiques cascades) et au lac Dubson. Alors que nous conduisions jusqu’à notre première aire de repos, nous avons vu pour la première fois des wombats, des opossums et des pademelons (genre de wallaby avec de tous petits bras et un gros ventre!). C’était extraordinaire ! On a bien essayé de prendre des photos mais ces bêtes-là, c’est rapide !! Nous avons dormis dans la voiture avec Joppi et Timo dans la tente. La nuit a été difficile à cause de la température (sûrement -8 000°C !!).

Heureusement le jour d’après était ensoleillé et on a pu apprécier quelques randonnées autour du Lac St. Clair, la randonnée de la culture Aborigène et celle de la baie de ornithorynques. Puis une courte marche pour la Nelson Falls. Sur la route pour Queenstown et Strahan, on s’est arrêté pour voir une cascade. Ces deux villages n’ont rien de vraiment intéressant. On s’y est juste arrêter pour faire des courses, faire le plein et manger. J’ai cassé ma bouteille d’huile d’olive à Strahan. J’étais triste, très triste. C’était une très bonne amie pour cuisiner. RIP… Sur la route de la prochaine aire de repos, Timo nous a fait nous arrêter par un « wow, wow, wow! ». Il avait vu un coucher de soleil sur une rivière et il voulait prendre une photo. En effet, c’était très beau. Après quelques minutes d’observations, on a vu des ornithorynques. Malheureusement encore, on a pas pu prendre de photo (trop loin et trop rapide)… Comme il faisait bon, j’ai échangé ma place avec Timo et j’ai décidé de dormir dans la tente. C’était probablement une mauvaise idée car il a plu toute la nuit. Quand je me suis levée le lendemain il y avait de l’eau sous mon matelas… Heureusement mon matelas est en plastique.

A cause de la pluie, on a décidé de zapper Craddle Mountain, et d’y revenir plus tard. On a donc conduit jusqu’à Wynery avec ses belles plages et Penguin avec ses pingouins géants. Puis à Latrobe, on a tenté de se détendre et de voir si on pouvait apercevoir des ornithorynques. Quand on a arrêté de vraiment observer et de commencer à discuter, on en a vu un ! Pour ceux qui ne croient que ce qu’ils voient, désolée, il va falloir me faire confiance car, là encore, on n’a pas pu prendre de photos. Ce soir-là, on voulait dormir dans un vrai lit au chaud, du coup on a passé la nuit à Gowrie Park dans une sorte d’hôtel pour voyageurs.

On a passé une vraie bonne nuit. Puis le matin on a repris la route et on s’est arrêté à Moles Creek. On a fait la grotte King Solomon cave. C’était sympa et plein de couleurs. Ensuite, on est allé jusqu’au Craddle Mountain National Park. Et on a vu notre première neige Australienne ! C’était plein de neige, et de vent. Tellement que j’ai décidé de pas faire de marche que Timo et Joppi ont à peine entamé (revenu 15min après) et d’admirer la vue sur le lac et Craddle Mountain depuis la voiture. C’était vraiment beau… Puis on a pris la route vers l’est, jusqu’au Mount Williams NP, où on a enfin pu prendre en photo un wombat !

On a passé une nuit gratuite (pas bien, on n’a pas payé le camping…) puis on a randonné jusqu’au top du Mont Williams. Là-haut nous avions une vue à couper le souffle sur l’océan et le parc national. Après ça, on a conduit jusqu’à Bay of Fires (en passant par un chemin sûrement pour 4x4). Si on ne se caillait pas, j’avoue que je me serais bien baignée dans cette eau bleue turquoise. Plus loin au phare du Freycinet NP, on a vu de loin une baleine à bosse. C’était incroyable ! Juste au moment où on décide de partir j’ai jeté un dernier coup d’œil au cas où, puis je l’ai vu sauter ! Ensuite, sur le chemin du prochain endroit pour dormir, on a vu un échidné. C’est fou, chaque jour nous avons vu un animal typique d’Australie. Et nous avons vu tous les animaux que nous espérions voir pendant ce road trip. Sauf, malheureusement, le diable de Tasmanie que nous ne verrons pas.

A la Tasman Peninsula, on a vu un joli pont naturel formé dans la roche, de belles falaises et un souffleur tout pourrit !! Puis on a fait la randonnée de Coal Mine Historic site (le site historique des mines de charbon). On a vu une prison de bagnards et quelques ruines. N’étant pas loin de Hobart on a décidé de se reposer un peu là-bas avant d’aller chez Jürgen et Helen. Joppi a rencontré Jürgen 2 semaines plus tôt alors qu’elle imprimait ses CV à Officeworks. Ils ont discuté et il lui a proposé qu’on dorme dans son jardin quand nous serions proches de chez lui. Du coup, c’est ce que nous avons fait. C’était une super nuit, et au réveil nous avons eu droit à de délicieuses gaufres maison avec de la farine maison, de la confiture maison, de la chantilly maison… MIAM ! Jürgen et Helen ont été vraiment accueillants et gentils.

C’est donc le ventre plein que nous sommes allés au Hartz Mountains NP. Et, il neigeait ! On a quand même décidé de faire deux randonnées jusqu’au lac Esperance et jusqu’au lac Osbourne. On ne pouvait pas aller plus loin car la neige était trop haute et on ne pouvait pas distinguer le chemin. C’était quoiqu’il en soit un bel endroit. Sur le chemin du retour à Hobart, on s’est arrêté à Huonvile. Il n’y a rien à voir, on voulait juste faire une sieste sur l’herbe et au soleil. Depuis le temps qu’on l’attendait ! Puis on est retourné à notre « belle » auberge.

Le lundi qui a suivi avec Joppi on a pas mal marché dans la ville eton s'est fait un petit resto sans trop regarder les prix. Le mardi matin, Timo est parti pour Sydney et moi l’après-midi pour Melbourne… J’ai attendu à l’aéroport 1/2h pour enregistrer mes bagages puis en arrivant au comptoir la femme m’a dit que mon vol était pour le lendemain ! Tête de linotte… Je me sentais un peu con… J’avais 2 choix, soit payer 100$ de plus et partir sur le champ, soit revenir à Hobart et partir le lendemain. Je suis donc retournée à Joppi plus tôt que ce que je pensais ! C’est donc le lendemain que j’ai quitté Hobart et Joppi pour St Kilda, une banlieue de Melbourne. C’est là que j’ai rencontré de gentils Français qui m’ont ouvert la porte, et qui m’ont prise pour une Anglaise (ou en tout cas, pas pour une Française !)…

Mon histoire à St Kilda viendra plus tard (je ne dis pas "bientôt" car je suis vraiment paresseuse en ce moment !).
